How to Add Barcodes to WooCommerce Products

WooCommerce now has a built-in field for product identifiers, so adding a barcode to your store is quick. Here is exactly where it lives and how to do it right.

Quick answer: In recent WooCommerce versions, edit a product, open the Inventory tab, and enter your barcode in the GTIN, UPC, EAN, or ISBN field. For many products at once, use a CSV import with a dedicated GTIN column.

Adding a barcode to a single product

Edit the product, go to Product data > Inventory, and you’ll find the GTIN/UPC/EAN/ISBN field. Paste your genuine number there and update.

This identifier then feeds your product feeds and structured data, which marketplaces and Google Shopping read.

Bulk adding with CSV import

For a catalog, add a column for the global unique ID (GTIN) in your CSV and map it during WooCommerce’s product import.

This is far faster than editing products one by one and keeps your data consistent.

Keep one number per variation

Each variation (size, color) needs its own unique barcode. Assign them at the variation level, not just the parent product.

Never reuse a number across two products or variations, or feeds will flag duplicates.
